Outreach
During my time in graduate school, I have participated in many outreach programs and events. In the image below, I am caught mid-gesture giving a talk about Hubble, galaxies, and the expansion of the universe to campers at a Wisconsin state park. The Universe in the Park Program is a program the takes University of Wisconsin-Madison graduate astronomy students and bring them to state parks across the state of Wisconsin. Two graduate students per event, one gives a public talk and one sets up a telescope for viewing after the talk. This program is unique in that it brings telescopes and astronomers to the public instead of the other way around. If you are interested in going to an event or learning more, visit the UITP website.
UW-Madison also has an old historical telescope: Washburn Telescope. It is a 130-year-old, 16inch refracting telescope. We hold open telescope viewing nights every Wednesday in good weather.
